IT’S COMPETITION TIME!

Do you know someone who loves crosswords?

Since the publication of my book How to Crack Cryptic Crosswords, many people have asked whether I ever write crosswords of my own. Well, so far I have spent more than fifty years solving other people’s but have not taken that extra step into becoming a compiler. That may soon be rectified when my first self-penned crossword appears in the Society of Women Writers and Journalists’ quarterly magazine, The Woman Writer. Only time will tell if the society’s members enjoy it enough to want me to carry on submitting puzzles on a regular basis.

So, I need the practice!!

If you would like me to create a unique cryptic crossword, individually tailor-made for a friend or family member, perhaps as a birthday gift or to pop inside a greetings card – or you’d just like one written for yourself – then I can do it for you!

Just leave me a brief comment below indicating who it’s for and why they might enjoy it, and I will be in touch with one lucky reader, randomly-selected, to find out all I can about your chosen recipient’s interests and hobbies so I can build the clues around them, and maybe even hide their own name somewhere amongst the solutions!

I know I will have fun creating the puzzle, and I hope the winner or their friend will enjoy solving it just as much.

So, now it’s over to you…

Good luck, Viv. I like doing crosswords and always greatly admire those who compile them.

I would like a personalised crossword for my unborn baby so as she grows up she will become brainy learning how to solve the clues.

It's my husband's 50th birthday in May and this sounds brilliant - only problem is, neither of us are any good at cryptic crosswords so it would have to be pretty easy!

Well, I need more entries than this. Come on folks, it's free!

I would like a personalised crossword as I am soon to be a granddad for the first time plus it would look great to display on the wall of my house - a real talking point.

Hi Viv we'd love a crossword from you for KISHBOO, our new non- profit fiction based e-mag.
Mu husband does the word puzzle grid in it and I do the anagrams and the quiz. If we published your crossword, we'd include a link to your blog and any of your books too!

That's an interesting proposition Sharon. I have messaged separately to follow up on it.
